Whole plant: Decoction is antivomitive, drunk by French Guiana Palikur to relieve the nausea of malaria.

Leaf: Infusion is febrifuge, sudorific, digestive; for colds, grippe; strong dose is vomitive, weak dose is laxative; alexiteric; cataplasm for cephalalgia. Infusion is drunk to treat high blood pressure in Surinam, where a decoction of the leaves is used for remedying chronic diarrhoea.

Leaf Toxicity:strong dose is vomitive. Leaves are used to treat oral sores, but the leaf-juice should not be ingested.
