Stem: Bark decoction used to treat rattlesnake bites, and as a febrifuge and purgative. Bark is boiled with water and drunk as an anti-diarrheal and anti-dysenteric, by the Guyana Patamona.

Fruit: Acid and astringent, containing much tannin, used to remedy dysentery.
