Cultivated in Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Maharashtra,Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu; wildin many parts of India.

Carminative, antipyretic, galactagogue. Powder of root is taken with water to stop vomiting.
Juice of leaves—antispasmodic and expectorant. Applied externally in eruptions of the skin.
Fruit, leaf and root—antidiabetic.
Various plant parts areused in slow pulse and convulsions, also against infective hepatitis
