Baccharis salicifolia (Ruiz & Pav.) Pers.

Nota de alcance

PARTE UTILIZADA= Used part: Hojas.

ACCIÓN FARMACOLÓGICA= Pharmacological action: Antiinflamatorio, antitumoral (hojas).

COMPOSICIÓN QUÍMICA= Chemical composition: Table 1 gives a complete analysis of th essential oil obtained from B. salicifolia. The constituents can be divided into three main groups of compuonds: (1) monoterpenes with alpha-phellandreneas the main component, (2) sesquiterpenes with germacrene D, bicyclogermacrene, and delta-cadinene as the main products, and (3) numerous monooxygenated sesquiterpenes such as cis-alpha-copaen-8-ol, (E)-nerolidol, the cadionols, and 5-guaien-4-ol (9). The solvent extract of the same plant collected in Texas and Mexico showed the presence of bisabolol, beta-eudesmol, and cadinol [11]. Unfortunatly, the lack of pure referencesamples makes it difficult to have complete confidence in the proposed identifications. One example of this difficulty lies in the identification of the product appearing in the #61 peak. The data included in the Chicoutimi data bank indicates cubenol (4-cadinen-1-ol) 1) (see Scheme 1), whereas the Berlin data bank shows a different structure for the same peak: 4-cadinen-10-ol (2)…

ZONA GEOGRÁFICA= Geografical zone: América del Sur hasta S. de E.U.A.

ÚLTIMOS AVANCES EN LA QUÍMICA Y ACTIVIDADES BACTERIOLÓGICAS EN LAS PLANTAS MEDICINALES= Medicinal plants, last advances on chemistry and bacteria activities on the medicinal herbs

1) The anthelmintic activity of the aq. exts. of Euphorbia huanchahana was evaluated.  High percentage of efficacy against the oxyuris Syphacia obvelata and Aspiculuris tetraptera was obtained.  Baccharis salicifolia showed a dose-dependent effect against the Syphacia obvelata and this is const. for the other oxyuri species.  The root of Euphorbia huanchahana presents saponins, tannins, steroids, coumarins, sesquiterpene lactones and cardiotonics.  The aerial part of Baccharis salicifolia presents alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, anthraquinones and cardiotonics.

2) Allelochem. effects were obsd. when Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) adults were treated with Baccharis salicifolia (Ruiz & Pavon) Pers essential oil.  The main biol. activities were toxicity and repellency.  Terpenes present in the essential oil were identified by GC-MS, and some authentic samples were tested to assess their activity individually.  The most acutely toxic compds. after 3 days were beta-pinene and pulegone.  Most of the monoterpenes elicited symptoms indicative of neurotoxicity.  The most repellent compd. was alpha-terpineol.  Toxic and repellent effects of chem. derivs. of the major sesquiterpene present in B. salicifolia essential oil, as well as a series of monoterpenes, were evaluated in order to investigate structure-activity relationships.  The reduced derivs. of the monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes were more repellent that their carbonyl analogs.  In addn., unsatn. in the germacrane skeleton enhanced repellent activity.
