ACCIÓN FARMACOLÓGICA= Pharmacological action: Pectoral, antioftálmico.

COMPOSICIÓN QUÍMICA= Chemical composition:THE VOLATILE constituents of the aerial parts of Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis were analyzed by GC/MS. Sixty three compds. were identified representing 82.42% of the total volatiles of the plant. The major compds. were phytol (15.33%), alpha-pinene (9.0 %) and 6,10,14- tri-Me pentadecanone (6.12%). The total oxygenated compds. constituted 57.36 %. The lipoidal matter was fractionated into unsaponifiable and saponifiable matters. Each fraction was subjected to GC/MS anal. Forty three compds. amounting 80.87 % of the total unsaponifiable matter were identified, with neophytadiene (7.72 %), 5- Ph dodecane (7.41 %) and 5- Ph undecane (6.08%) as major compds. Eighteen fatty acid Me esters constituting 85.96 % of the total fraction were identified, with Me hexadecanoate (30.37%), methyl-9,12,15-octadecatrienoate (18.22%) and methyl-9,12-octadecadienoate (11.49%) as the major compds. Two C- flavone- glucosides were isolated and identified by detn. of their chromatog., hydrolytic and spectral characters (UV, 1H NMR, 13C NMR), as, vitexin and isovitexin. The LD50, antihyperlipidemic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic, anticonvulsant and cytotoxic activities of the total ethanol and successive exts. were investigated. It is worth to mention that the volatiles, lipoidal constituents and the isolated flavonoids, as well as, the tested biol. activities of the plant were investigated for the first time in the current study.
