Guiana, Venezuela and Trinidad. In Venezuela in the coastal Cordillera and on the hills of Guiana. In the Guianas it is found in the rainforest, particularly along creeks.

Medical use

In several species of Anaxagorea, the bark of the trees was used as a kind of curare.
Leaves and bark are used as a contraceptive.
