Has a yellowish or orange resinous gum, Copal, in the bark, which is used as incense, for varnishes and leather. Pulp around the seeds is edible. Wood is useful. A decoction of the bark is used for a bath and to alleviate contusions. Internally it is taken as a sedative and vermifuge. The burning pericarp is an insect repellent. Timber is resistant to fungi and termites (CASTILLO 1995). ROTH studied the bark structure 1981, leaf structure 1984, fruit structure and dispersal1987, leaf venation 1996.
