The plant is occasionally cultivated as an ornamental. The hard timber which is of fine texture and of light yellow colour is used for cylinders and firewood. The bark of the root has a stimulating effect. Of the bark of the stem and of the leaves a decoction is prepared which cures hysteria and hypochondria. The infusion of the leaves is applied to cure nervous diseases.
