In Venezuela it is considered a weed. In other parts of the world, however, it has many applications. Leaves, twigs and young fruits are eaten boiled. The plant is also used in popular medicine. The seeds in decoction are prepared for a drink which expels worms. Externally applied, the leaves cure irritations. The sap of the leaves is applied in the form of drops to cure ear ache.

Range. 300 m; Himalayas, India, Sri Lanka, east to China and Malaysia. Wide­spread in Myanmar.

Uses
Leaf: Rubefacient and vesicant.

Seed: Febrifuge.
