Uses: place leaves on body for aches, on forehead for fevers; boil leaves in water and bathe for aches; chop leaves, boil in water with leaves of other species, bathe for skin rashes or rheumatism; boil leaves in water with apical meristems, drink for stomachaches; crush root, chew for toothache. The use of this plant to make a general beverage is confirmed. In Maya medicine the plant is a frequent ingredient in baths and lotions for pains. pulmonary tuberculosis. chills and fever. convulsions and fainting. The decoction is also drunk to hasten the afterbirth. The plant is also used in Maya remedies for jaundice and biliousness.
