Origen y distribución: nativa de América Central (México), América del Sur y Asia Central, a menudo se cultiva en jardines por toda Italia, en sus distintas variedades. La planta requiere un clima templado cálido (temperatura óptima 18-24 º C). El cultivo requiere un suelo de textura media, fresco y suave, rico en materia orgánica y bien drenado.
Propiedad: antihelmíntica, diurética, antiséptica, vulneraria, anti diarreica, antianémicas.
Uses: worm, cholesterol.

Action:
Fruit pulp—sedative, emollient and refrigerant; used as poultice, applied to burns, inflammations, boils, and burns.
Seeds—diuretic, anthelmintic (for tapeworm). Because of their zinc content and antimitotic effect, seeds are used to arrest enlargement of prostate gland. Also used in cystitis and minor kidney dyfunction.
