Stem: Bark decoction used to cure dysentery, fever and diarrhoea. The Surinam Tirio rub the smoke from burned bark over the body to treat diarrhoea.

Bark Toxicity: In Guyana a tea is prepared from the bark, but constant drinking of it weakens the body.
