Whole plant: Astringent, used for ophthalmia and diarrhoea; anti inflammatory diuretic; for digestive tract infections. Used to treat colds and coughs in NW Guyana.

Stem and Leaf: Infusion drunk as a febrifuge.

Leaf: Pectoral, mucilaginous. Infusion used to treat diarrhoea.
