Guttiferae (Clusiaceae)

Nota de alcance (en)

Schizogeneous oil or resin cavities or canals (name of the family: gutta) are universally present. Tannins, anthraquinones, polyphenols, coumarins and xanthones are common in the family. Guttiferin is toxic. A highly toxic vermifugal constituent has been found in the seeds of a species of Caraipa. Several species are sources of durable woods, drugs, dyes, gums and resins, fat, oils and of edible fruits.Of the genus Clusia about 200 species exist in tropical and subtropical America, often as epiphytes and tree stranglers with aerial roots, or as Hanas. The family occurs in the Tropics and Subtropics, and only Hypericum is found in temperature regions.
