Range. Widespread from Madagascar, through India and the Himalayas to southwestern China, south through Indochina; also in Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, and the Philippines. In Myanmar, found in Shan, Taninthayi, and Yangon.

Leaf: Used as antiasthmatic.

Cultivated as an ornamental. Found in Bihar, North Bengal, Orissa, Western Ghats and Southwards.
Action:
Leaves—anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antimicrobial. Applied to smallpox pustules.
Root—bruised and fried in oil, applied to abscesses.
