Origin:
Assam, Bengal, southwards to Andhra Pradesh and western Ghats.
Action:
Stembark—febrifugal, antidiuretic, anthelmintic, hypoglycaemic.
Fruit—cooling; anticatarrhal, blood purifier, analgesic.
Leaves—astringent. A decoction is used for gargling in stomatitis and aphthae.
Toxicity:
Flowers and root—abortifacient.
