PARTE UTILIZADA= Used part: Cáscara.
ACCIÓN FARMACOLÓGICA= Pharmacological action: Antidiarreico, antihemorrágico.
COMPOSICIÓN QUÍMICA= Chemical composition: The fatty acid compn., tocopherol and tocopherol content, and oxidative stability of petroleum benzene-extd. Gevuina avellana Mol (Proteaceae) seed oil were detd. Positional isomers of mono-unsatd. fatty acids were elucidated by gas chromatog.-electron impact mass spectrometry after 2-alkenyl-4,4-dimethyloxazoline derivatization. This stable oil (Rancimat induction period at 110C: 20 h) is composed of more than 85% mono-unsatd. fatty acids and about equal amts. (6%) of satd. and poly-unsatd. (principally linoleic) fatty acids. Unusual positional isomers of mono-unsatd. fatty acids, i.e., C16:1 delta11, C18:1 delta12, C20:1 delta11 C20:1 delta15 C22:1delta17, and presumably C22:1 delta19 were identified. The C18:1 delta12 and C22:1 delta19 fatty acids are described for the 1st time in G. avellana seed oil. While only minute quantities of alpha-, gamma-tocopherols and beta-, gamma- and delta-tocotrienols were found, the oil contained a substantial amt. of alpha-tocopherol (130 mg/kg). The potential nutritional value of G. avellana seed oil is discussed on the basis of its compn.
