Origin:
Native to China and Japan; cultivated in Indian gardens.
Action:
Plant—cathartic, antispasmodic, anthelmintic, antiperiodic.
Root—antidysenteric. Also used in dyspepsia and nervous disorders.
Fruits—used in gastric hyperacidity, constipation, cholestasis, internally and externally for inflammation and as a tranquilizer.
