A native of the NewWorld; found in marshy fields in India.

Action:
Cooling, diuretic, astringent, mild laxative. Used in catarrhal affections of children; applied externally for burns and scalds. Pulp of the plant, steeped in buttermilk, is used for dysentery.
Root—febrifuge.
