Leaf—antispasmodic and emollient. Bark—demulcent, emollient, astringent, antidiarrhoeal, anodyne.
Root—decoction is used as an emmenagogue. Oil from berries—used in rheumatism.
Essential oil—antibacterial, antifungal.
