Origin
Native to China and Japan; distributed in the Himalayas from Himachal Pradesh eastwards and in Assam.
Action:
Fruits—emetic and expectorant; used in excessive salivation, chlorosis and epilepsy. Saponins exhibit hypotensive, anticholesterolemic, spermicidal and antimicrobial properties.
Toxicity:
spermicidal.
