1) The qual. and quant. compn. of the essential oils of three Eupatorium species (Compositae) has been investigated for the first time. All three species grow spontaneously in the central area of South America. The essential oils were obtained by steam distn. of leaves and analyzed by GC-MS. Altogether, 23 components were identified. alpha-Pinene (11.0-17.0%) was characteristic of all the Eupatorium species studied. P-Cymene (12.5-24.8%) was also a predominant constituent of E. argentinum Ariza and E. subhastatum Hook, and Arn., while the other important compd. of E. hecatanthum (DC.) Baker was thymyl acetate (10.6%).
