PARTE UTILIZADA= Used part: Hojas y flores.
ACCIÓN FARMACOLÓGICA= Pharmacological action: Las hojas y las flores secas quemadas y aspirando el humo son antiasmáticas también tiene propiedades alucinógenas (no es recomendable ingerir por sus efectos tóxicos).
COMPOSICIÓN QUÍMICA= Chemical composition: The percentages of the main alkaloids were: 3,6-bis(tigloyloxy)tropane (I) and 7-hydroxy-3,6-bis(tigloyloxy)tropane (II) (calcd. as the latter compd.) 0.089, hyoscine (III) 0.124, hyoscyamine (IV)/atropine (V) 0.228, tropine and pseudotropine 0.02, and total alkaloids (calcd. as IV) 0.435. Two fractions, A and B, were isolated from the Et2O ext. of the roots. Fraction A contained I and II; the m.p. and mixed m.p. of the picrate were 150-1degrees and 182-4degrees, resp. Fraction B contained III and IV. The m.p. and mixed m.p. of the picrate was 184-5degrees for III, and 173-4degrees for IV/V. Paper chromatog. of the ammoniacal CHCl3 ext. of Fraction B revealed 2 spots. One spot was V and the other presumably pseudotropine.
