Summary
Neneo (Mullinum spinosum – Umbelliferae) is a typical shrub from the Patagonian steps, traditionally used as a cholagogue and hepatoprotective agent. However, no biological studies have been performed in order to validate these popular medicinal uses. Due to the specific characteristics of the essential oil obtained from the roots, some of its components could be of interest to the aromatic industry in the future, while preliminary studies suggest potential activity against Trypanosoma cruzi, a parasite responsible for Chagas disease.
