occurs in inundated forests along the Rio Negro and the upper Orinoco, the Anazonas and its affluents. The tree is described by CASTILLO (1995) for the humid forest along the Cataniapo river, State Anazonas of Venezuela. The plant has a hard and fine structured timber of great economic value. The Kuripakos use the plant against flatulence after heaving eaten tapir meat (GENTRY 1992 B).
