ACCIÓN FARMACOLÓGICA= Pharmacological action: Antigripal, pectoral, hemostático, astringente.
COMPOSICIÓN QUÍMICA= Chemical composition: La planta contiene antocianinas (rhoeanina) y B-D-glucosa. En un tamizaje fitoquímico de las hojas no se detectaron alcaloides, flavonoides, saponinas o taninos. Se han reportado varios aminoácidos en las hojas de esta planta.
ZONA GEOGRÁFICA= Geografical zone: Cuba, República Dominicana.
Range. Southern Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and West Indies. Grows throughout Myanmar; cultivated.
Use
Whole plant: One teaspoon of the liquid obtained from pounding the plant mixed with a little sugar (taken three times a day) used to cure coughs and loosen mucus.
Stem and Leaf: Liquid obtained from boiling crushed stems and leaves down to 1/3, together with a little raw sugar (1 tablespoon taken three times a day), used to treat vomiting of blood.
Leaf: Used to remedy burns, scalds, and dysentery.
