PARTE UTILIZADA= Used part: Planta entera.
ACCIÓN FARMACOLÓGICA= Pharmacological action: Sudorífico.
COMPOSICIÓN QUÍMICA= Chemical composition: Two new sesquiterpene lactones, vernoflexuoside (I) and vernoflexin (II), were isolated from the roots of V. flexuosa and their structures elucidated. I and II were identified as guianolides; enzymic (beta-glucosidase) hydrolysis of I and alk. hydrolysis of II produced zaluzanin C.
ZONA GEOGRÁFICA= Geografical zone: Brasil, Uruguay.
DIVERSIDAD GENÉTICA Y MEJORAMIENTO DE PLANTAS MEDICINALES= Medicinal plants and improvement of medicinal herbs
A comparative study of the leaf flavonoids of the 8 species of Vernonia series Flexuosae was performed to help clarify their relations. Structurally the 25 flavonoids detected were based on flavones and flavonols. The chem. data supported the classification of the series Flexuosae based on macromorphol. Each species contained its own particular combination of flavonoids, but all taxa shared compds. in the following flavonoid groups: apigenin and luteolin 6- and 8-C-glycosides, apigenin and luteolin 7-O-glycosides, and kaempferol and quercetin 3-O-glycosides. A reductionary trend in flavonoid evolution is suggested for series Flexuosae.
