ÚLTIMOS AVANCES EN LA QUÍMICA Y ACTIVIDADES BACTERIOLÓGICAS EN LAS PLANTAS MEDICINALES= Medicinal plants, last advances on chemistry and bacteria activities on the medicinal herbs
 
1) Total phenolic and flavonoid contents of different exts. of Papaver rhoeas L. were examd.  High contents of total phenolic compds. (9.73 - 19.91 mg GAE/g of fresh petals) and total flavonoids (7.904 - 11.45 mg QE/g of fresh petals) were detd.  Red pigment present in the flowers of P. rhoeas L. originates from anthocyanins, which may act as natural antioxidants.  Anthocyanins content in the investigated exts. is very unified and ranged from 4.72 to 5.193 mg of cyanidin-3-O-glukoside/g of fresh petals.  The antioxidant activity of different exts. was tested using the spectrophotometric method by means of the ability of exts. to scavenge stable 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH).  All tested exts. exhibited strong scavenging activity against DPPH radicals, that is higher then 80%.  Total phenolic and flavonoid contents may be related to the percentages of the scavenging activity of DPPH assay (estd. correlation coeff. are R2 = 0.965 and 0.752, resp.).  The ethanol ext. of P. rhoeas L. showed antimicrobial activity against the yeast Candida albicans, and all tested bacteria except Bacillus subtilis.  This paper suggests that the investigated exts. of plant P. rhoes L. could be potentially applied as an antioxidant and antimicrobial agents. 2) The alkaloids of two varieties of Papaver rhoeas namely var. rhoeas and var. strigosum growing in Turkey have been investigated.  The structures of the isolated alkaloids have been confirmed by spectral methods.  It has been shown that the major alkaloids isolated from the samples were all different types belonging to proaporphine (mecambrine), benzylisoquinoline (papaverine) and rhoeadine (isorhoeadine).  The existence of medicinally important alkaloids papaverine is of significance. The title essence comprises (by g): isoeugenol 16000, Papaver rhoeas phenols 16000, clove oil 10000, Papaver rhoeas oil 10000, Anemarrhena asphodeloides oil 3000, Flos Lonicerae oil 3000, Scrophularia ningpoensis oil 2000, lemon oil 2000, rose oil 3000, methylionone 5000, Saposhnikovia divaricata essence 3000, Jasminum sambac essence 3000, Fritillaria cirrhosa essence 5000, Pelargonium graveolens 3000, Radix Polygalae oil 2000, and jasmine ext. 5000.  The essence is prepd. by mixing, stirring, aging, filtering, clarifying and bottling.

ACCIÓN FARMACOLÓGICA= Pharmacological action: Calmante, emoliente, antitusiva y sedante.

POSOLOGÍA= Posology: Insomnio. Infusión de los pétalos frescos de 10 flores en 200 cm cúbico de agua durante 10 minutos. Colar y endulzar con 2 cucharadas de miel. Tomar todo el líquido antes de acostarse.

COMPOSICIÓN QUÍMICA= Chemical composition: Glucósidos (antocianina cuya genina es la cianidina, que es la que da el color a los pétalos); alcaloides (readina reagenina), y lleva mucílago y ácido papavérico.

ZONA GEOGRÁFICA= Geografical zone: Camino de Santiago.

Sedante ligero, hipnótico, antitusivo, emoliente y aniespasmódico.

De origen incierto extendida sobre todo en Europa, Asia occidental y norte de África. Introducias. Naturalizadas. No amenazadas.

Pétalo desecado de la flor, cápsulas inmaduras.

Propiedades e indicaciones terapéuticas:
- Derivadas de la experiencia de uso tradicional:
Tradicionalmente se ha utilizado los pétalos de amapola para calmar la tos y como sedante suave, también para favorecer el sueño. También por vía externa para lavar los ojos en caso de conjuntivitis. Una decocción de las cápsulas ha servido en ocasiones como enjuague vucal para calmar el dolor de muelas.
- Según el contenido en principios activos o ensayos farmacológicos:
Los mucílagos de la amapola ejecercen un efecto hidratante y calmante de la mucosa respiratoria evitando el reflejo de la tos. Supuestamente debido a los alcaloides que contienen los pétalos de amapola actúan a nivel de sistema nervioso central favoreciendo la circulación del sueño.
