ÚLTIMOS AVANCES EN LA QUÍMICA Y ACTIVIDADES BACTERIOLÓGICAS EN LAS PLANTAS MEDICINALES = RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN THE CHEMICAL AND BACTERIOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES IN MEDICINAL PLANTS:
1) The root of A. silvestris has been used as a medicine with spasmolytic and carminative action for stomach and kidney ailments and the powd. fruit as an insecticide. Chromatography on Al2O3 of the ether and alc. ext. of the fruit gave (compd., m.p., % yield, Rf, and fluorescence given): umbelliprenin, 61-2°, 0.3, 0.80 ± 0.05, blue (cleavage with AcOH-H2SO4 (9.5:0.5) gave umbelliferone, m.p. 224-6°); oxypeucedanin, 141-2°, 0.08, 0.40 ± 0.05, yellow: isooxypeucedanin, 146°, 0.005, 0.40 ± 0.05, yellow fluorescence; an unknown furanocoumarin, 145-8° (decompn.), 0.5, 0.40 ± 0.05, weak gray (most active musclotropic spasmolytic action (3/4 that of papaverine), toxicity tested on rats (L.D.50 50 mg./kg.), decompd., in time, with aromatic odor, and oxypeucedanin was found in the product); imperatorin, 100-2°, 0.01, 0.53 + 0.5, dark yellow (ultraviolet); an unknown furanocoumarin 103-4°, 0.01%, 0.50 ± 0.05, brown (ultraviolet) (treatment with AcOH-H2SO4 (9.5:0.5) gave yellow needles, m. 210-18°, which with CH2N2, produced isopimpellin); and a flavone glycoside, 272-9°, 0.005, --, --. Ultraviolet and infrared spectral data are presented for all 7 compds.
2) The oil contained approx. 80% of d-limonene; alpha-pinene and nopinene occurred in the most volatile fractions. Traces of furfural were also found. (3)
