Summary
Acanthospermum hispidum (Asteraceae) is a South American invasive weed that grows throughout the Central and Northern regions of Argentina. The alcoholic extracts of the aerial parts have shown good in vitro antimicrobial activity, in particular against microbial agents that are involved in gonorrhea and boils. Some preliminary pharmacological evidence also indicates that A. hispidum may be of interest in the treatment of malaria, although further studies are needed in this aspect.
